           Dr. Md. Enamul Hoque
Introduction: Aim of this study is to find out the correlation between axial length and corneal curvature of adult emmetropic eye and also to find out the ratio of these two variables.
Materials & Methods: This study was exploratory analytic study done within the period of six months where 121 Bangladeshi adult people having 6/6 vision within the age of 18 to 40 years was taken.
Result: Mean axial length ± SD of emmetropic eye of Bangladeshi people is 22.86 ± 0.73mm. Average keratometry of K1 and K2 ± SD is 43.73D ± 1.58D. Its correlation coefficient (r) is – 0.728 which is negative correlation (p<0.01) . Regression coefficient of the dependent variable (Y) as axial length and independent variable (X) as average keratometry, then the regression coefficient byx is -0.335 and regression line for character Y i.e; Yc = 37.539 + ( -0.335 × X1 ) (Yc = corresponding to any value of X) . The regression line for Y on X is statistically significant ( p < 0.01).
The ratio of Average keratometry of K1 and K2 and axial length is 1.9 ± 0.12.
Conclusion: Mean axial length ± SD of emmetropic eye of Bangladeshi people is 22.86 ± 0.73mm. Average keratometry of K1 and K2 ± SD is 43.73D ± 1.58D. Correlation coefficient (r) between them is – 0.728. The ratio of 1.9 of average keratometry of K1 and K2 and axial length can be taken as a constant which can be utilized in various application in medical science.
