           Doctors with Borders; Partnering to strengthen national physician organizations

                      Professionalism as a medical/surgical volunteer embodies respect for national sovereignty and host country  physicians, individually and organizationally. This discussion will feature several  principles  of responsibility and opportunity for the global volunteer as regards registration with  Ministry of Health authorities and liaison with community physicians. Cautions regarding solicitation whether corporate, association or faith affiliation will be described. Patient interests are always best achieved thru mutual , trusting physician  to physician dialogue and the value of a return visit will be illustrated.  
                      This presentation will feature recent personal engagements with ophthalmology colleagues and national societies in Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and Haiti The professional interests of our international colleagues  and their sustainable organizational development will be  championed.  Resources of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Global Alliances Secretariat will be featured.
